Logistics of Travel
What’s your favorite part of traveling?
Oddly enough, for me it’s the logistics that I find most enjoyable. Finding ways of getting everyone from point A to point B as comfortably and conveniently as possible.
Here are a few examples:
Parking in the long-term airport parking garage connected to the airport v. shuttling in from a long-term parking lot
Avoiding flights that arrive super early or late
Having the rental car dropped off at your arrival location v. jumping in an Uber or shuttle to pick it up
Getting a rental or ride sharing car with enough room for everyone v. asking everyone to deal with being crammed
Booking housing that is within a reasonable drive or walk from the things you have planned to do and see
Upgrading to the king size v. queen size bed
I think originally this stemmed from my childhood where traveling seemed more of a hassle than it had to be and a bit stressful. Inconvenience was often elected over convenience.
Now that I’m older I realize these conveniences have a cost, but I’ve discovered the benefit can far exceed the additional cost.
And I believe that’s really why I love the logistics of travel. I find joy in discovering those little travel modifications or tricks where the added comfort or convenience is worth 10x (or sometimes 100x) the additional cost. It’s not about traveling in luxury or status for me. It’s about the joy of smoothly moving around and enjoying the time you’ve dedicated to traveling.
