The power of simple mission statements.

If you’ve been to Leopold's Ice Cream in Savannah, GA you know it’s a great experience. There is almost guaranteed to be a line outside the door - even mid-afternoon on a weekday - but the ice cream and encounters with the friendly staff are well worth the wait.

On a recent visit there I spotted their mission statement and took a minute to read it.

Our Mission

To be stewards of our family’s artisan recipes and to passionately create the finest ice cream possible.

To be active, giving participants within our community, and because memories connect people to one another, help celebrate the simple moments in life by creating tasty memories and unsurpassed customer service.

It’s simple and yet elegant. It’s clearly stated. They aren’t trying to change the world or disrupt anything. Their goal is simpler than that: cherish the family’s recipes, make great ice cream, and care about people.

I think about the thousands of families the staff at Leopold’s has served and have been positively impacted by the “tasty memories” they made there.

Simple mission statements are powerful and the world will benefit from more small businesses like Leopold’s Ice Cream living out their simple mission in their small corner of the universe.
